For the 12 years and under entrants in the School Sport Australia Tennis Championship 2024 in the Northern Territory this week, the competition was fierce.

112 kids representing every state and territory of Australia flocked to the Northern Territory for the historic Bruce Cup trophy tournament, in an action-packed seven-day event (17-24 August) held across both the Darwin International Tennis Centre in Marrara and Gardens Tennis Club at Mindil Beach.

The Bruce Cup is a round robin competition, with both singles and doubles matches, that offers young players access to an Australia-wide competition.

For this year’s Northern Territory hosts of the broader Australian School Sports Championships the prestigious tennis cup is part of, running the event is a privilege that comes around once every eight years. Teams from cooler climates definitely needed a little time to adjust to the heat and humidity, with players’ families, families who billeted kids, coaches, and the organisers of School Sport Education NT all playing important roles in making the event a success.

With the 2024 competition now complete, the baton has been passed to Victoria as host of next year’s School Sport Australia Games in October 2025, which will be held in regional Ballarat.
