The latest results from the 2024 Good Universities Guide ratings have seen Victoria’s regional Federation University Australia maintain its position as the top university nationally for ‘first in family’ enrolments, while also leading numerous higher education categories – both nationally and across the state.
It’s the sixth consecutive year that Federation has received the number one ranking for First-Generation Student Enrolments, with 54 per cent of the university’s cohort being the first in their family to enrol in tertiary education.
Community connections matter
Being driven by “a purpose of transforming lives and enhancing communities” also helped Federation maintain its number one ranking in Victoria for undergraduate starting salary, as well as social equity for students.
The 2024 results also revealed Federation’s strength in specific disciplines, with the regional institution being ranked number one in Australia for Overall Education Experience for undergraduates in Engineering and Technology – from which three engineering courses will be delivered at Federation’s Berwick Campus for the first time in 2024 – and Law & Paralegal Studies, the ranking testament to Federation’s lauded Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice course.
Federation also ranked number one in Victoria for Overall Education Experience in Health Services and Support, Rehabilitation, and Science and Mathematics.
The 2024 rankings are testament to the ongoing implementation of the Federation Co-operative Education Model, which makes students work and world-ready through direct connection to employers, paid placements, career preparation and workplace skill development.
“Access and inclusion are critically important for our young people to achieve their goals, and we’re enormously proud to be the number one university in Australia for first generation student enrolments and number one in Victoria for social equity and undergraduate starting salary,” says Federation University Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley.
“This year we supported students with a record number of scholarships, empowering them to succeed in their studies and thrive in their local communities and as we continue to implement our co-operative education model, we’re giving students a real headstart in their chosen profession.”
