The Motor Traders’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW) has opened its newly refurbished MyTradeStart Training Hub in Auburn, NSW, following its acquisition of the training provider in September 2023.

The upgraded facility aims to deliver top-tier, hands-on education to hundreds of students, preparing them to meet the demands of the ever-evolving automotive industry. Students seeking careers in the automotive industry can specialise in Light Vehicle, Panel and Paint, Heavy vehicle, Autobody, Sales and now also Electrical.

The refurbishment of MyTradeStart includes spaces that emulate real-world workshops, ensuring students can make the transition from training to the workplace more smoothly. Reflecting the rapidly changing demands of the automotive sector, MTA NSW will also offer its electric vehicle (EV) training in a new dedicated EV training facility, ensuring apprentices gain the future-focused skills necessary for a successful career.

MyTradeStart serves as a dedicated hub for automotive training, complementing MTA NSW’s existing onsite training model.

In addition to refurbishments, MTA NSW says it has implemented its training standards across all courses, offering apprentices the opportunity to learn from expert trainers who bring industry-leading knowledge and passion into the training experience.

Stavros Yallouridis, CEO of MTA NSW, says the refurbished MyTradeStart facility complements the organisation’s existing onsite training model:

“With the opening of these training facilities, we can tailor our training even further to meet the individual needs of each student, whether that be through hands-on, onsite experience or in a classroom setting,” he says.

MyTradeStart currently offers six accredited courses, including certificates in Automotive Refinishing Technology, Automotive Body Repair Technology, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Automotive Electrical Technology, and Automotive Air Conditioning Technology.

The registered training organisation is focused on meeting the diverse needs of apprentices, employers, and the wider automotive industry, with a focus on practical, career-focused learning that can be immediately applied in the workplace.

Students can expect smaller class sizes and personalised mentorship, including one-on-one time with trainers, with a focus on creating a learning environment that enables students to build valuable connections with both their peers and industry leaders. Financial support options are also available to help make the training more accessible to aspiring automotive professionals.

“The refurbished facilities give our students a real taste of what it’s like in the industry,” says Training Manager at MyTradeStart Claire Brown.

“We’re making sure they’re not just learning but preparing for the future of automotive work, so it’s all about giving them the tools and skills they need to hit the ground running in a rapidly changing industry.”
