Five students in years 10-12 at local high schools in regional and rural South Australia have been presented with scholarships from their local council, aimed at supporting their further education.

The District Council of Grant provides students a $750 Academic Scholarship Award for consistently demonstrating their school values, an exemplary attendance records and intent to undertake tertiary education.

Mayor Kylie Boston says the council is pleased to support the community’s next generation to help strengthen their commitment to progressing their education.

“Council is proud to be able to support our local young achievers,” Boston says.

“Education is so important for the growth of our young people and these scholarships provide a great opportunity for students to further develop their skills, within their field of choice, which in turn benefits our community in a variety of ways.

“I would like to extend a huge congratulations to all the 2024 scholarship recipients and wish them the best on their future education journey.”

Zoey Norman is a scholarship recipient from Grant High School and says her plan is to put the scholarship funds toward supporting her tertiary education.

“I aim to go to university to study communications and media, with the hope of being a film director,” she says, adding that she is “very grateful” for the financial assistance.

“As a rural student, these funds will assist in alleviating some financial pressures that come with moving to the city, like transport and accommodation.”

Grant High School principal Caroline Davey added the academic award also acted as encouragement for students in their final years of high school study.

“Not only does the District Council of Grant Scholarship Award assist with the financial support needed to pursue educational goals, it also inspires and recognises academic excellence, motivating students to strive for continued success,” Davey says.

“The Council’s commitment to supporting youth in our community plays an important role in fostering our students’ growth and assisting us in building future ready citizens.”
