Almost 30,000 Queensland Year 12 graduates woke up to their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) results online today.
Of the 28,845 who undertook the Year 12 exams, 36 received the highest possible band result of 99.95, with 25 per cent attaining an ATAR of 90 or above.
This year’s high-achieving cohort studied a diverse range of subjects, including French to specialist mathematics, chemistry and psychology.
While many students have been awaiting today’s results with anxious anticipation to finalise their pathway into tertiary courses, university is not the only post-school opportunity, with many choosing to embark on shorter certifications or enter straight into the workforce – and others taking a gap year to give them time and space to make the right decision.
In the wake of today’s results being released, Queensland Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek commended all graduates on their exceptional efforts over the past two years.
“Congratulations to all of our fantastic Year 12 students from the class of 2024 on receiving your ATAR results,” he said.
“All of you have worked extremely hard, with the support of your teachers, family and friends.
“I’d like to acknowledge the talented individuals who achieved an impressive score of 99.95.
“Anyone who didn’t quite get the result they were looking for shouldn’t be disheartened. There are many avenues you can explore, including VET or bridging course pathways.”
Exploring post-ATAR options and support
Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) Interim Chief Executive Officer Chris Veraa says the QTAC is ready, willing and able to continue supporting graduates.
“Congratulations to our ATAR recipients. This result is the culmination of lots of hard work, dedication, and perseverance on your part.
“While competitive entry requirements play a significant role in tertiary courses, remember there are many pathways to tertiary study and a high ATAR is not the only way to gain entry.
“If you need guidance on your study options, please reach out to our team at QTAC.”
One Year 12 state school graduate, Lachlan, achieved an ATAR rank of 99.95 – a feat he said was made possible after getting through the school year with ‘dedication, resilience and courage’.
“School was good, I made lots of friends and lots of people supported me – it has been challenging at times but worth it.”
Key ATAR and QTAC points:
- the nationwide ATAR indicates a graduate’s position, in terms of academic results, relative to other graduates from the same state or territory of Australia
- its primary purpose is to determine entry for most courses at tertiary institutions, right across Australia, in addition to other requirements such as subject prerequisites
- the ATAR involves a scale which ranges in descending order from 99.95 down to 0.00, in increments of 0.05
- Queensland graduates could access their Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) ATAR Portal online account from 8am today
- QTAC’s first major offer round, post ATAR release, is 10am Monday 23 December 2024, with a response date of Monday 30 December 2024
- course offers are made in a whole series of rounds
- Queensland graduates with questions can call QTAC on 1300 467 822 to explore various pathways available.
