The new Midtown Macquarie Park public school will help meet the education needs of this major Sydney growth area, where student projections are predicted to triple by 2041.

The NSW Government is set to deliver the project – to accommodate 750 kindergarten to year six students – after growing demand in Macquarie Park was not met by the former Liberal and National Government.

Plans for the important project were lodged on 12 September, with the proposed school to feature contemporary, student-centred design elements, including a fun slide from level one to the ground floor.

Teachers contributed to plans for a rooftop area that will capitalise on outdoor space by combining a running track, perimeter net for ball games, table settings, performance stage, and play area.

Fun is firmly on the agenda with a climbing wall, play areas on three other levels of the school, a multipurpose hall with sport court markings, flexible and covered outdoor learning areas (COLAs), and a natural school garden.

State-of-the-art classrooms, admin and staff facilities, a canteen, multipurpose hall, library, and landscaped outdoor learning areas and plantings throughout the grounds will round out the design to give local families access to critical education services.

Students also have easy access to sports fields and open public parkland including nearby Wilga Park and Shrimptons Creek.

NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car told The Bursar, “The young families of this area were promised the world by the Liberals and Nationals, while nothing was delivered.

“It is vital that the rapidly growing community of Macquarie Park are given the educational infrastructure they need to thrive and flourish into the future.”
