A planned half-day strike by teachers in Western Australia will see more than 80 schools across the state impacted today.
The WA Department of Education says the stop-work action will begin at the start of Tuesday’s school day.
The industrial action is in response to dissatisfaction with the state government’s offer of an 11 per cent pay increase over three years. The teachers have asked for a 12 per cent pay rise over the next two years.
Teaching resumes later today
Teachers in most of the affected schools are expected to be fronting classrooms again – ready to teach – from 12.30pm (AWST). For teachers in schools in the Pilbara and Kimberley regions, the return to teaching will commence from 11.30am.
A statement on the WA Department of Education website says that, during the strike action, “adequate duty of care may not be able to be provided”.
Teachers are taking action to push for a 12 per cent pay increase over the next two years.
